On Dharwal Country the escarpment hugs the coastline. For thousands of years, humans have shared this place with Grey-Headed Flying Foxes. In the wet, fading light, they fly out across the water to Five Islands - off the coast of Port Kembla. As the sun rises, they settle into the suburban gum trees, huddled among the branches, rain droplets dripping from their leathery wings. Against the leaden sky their dark silhouettes merge with the dappled Eucalyptus leaf canopy.
